PreonLab 7.2 is all about getting more out of every simulation, with faster setups, more efficient thermal workflows, and a smoother everyday user experience.

Highlights of this release include SetupProfiles, which store predefined simulation settings and share them across teams, and ScriptRecording, which turns GUI actions into reusable PreonPy code. On the thermal side, StaggeredCHT makes steady-state thermal simulations up to 4x faster. The release also brings a wide range of workflow enhancements, many of them requested directly by our users, as well as targeted improvements for transmission, soiling, and rigid body simulations. The result is less time spent on setup and more time for engineering and understanding results.

What to expect

PreonLab 7.2 introduces two new features that make simulation setup faster and more consistent. Setup Profiles store and apply predefined settings for recurring simulation types, giving users a reliable starting point and reducing setup time. Profiles can also be exported and shared across teams, ensuring the same setup is used consistently. ScriptRecording complements this by turning interactive work into automation. It records actions performed in the GUI and automatically generates the corresponding PreonPy code, making it easy to standardize workflows and build scripts with minimal effort.

On the thermal side, the release introduces Staggered CHT for steady-state thermal simulations. Fluid and solid domains are solved separately and exchange heat transfer information at intervals, taking advantage of the fact that the fluid flow reaches a steady state much faster than the solids. This delivers up to 4x faster simulations compared to Monolithic CHT, with comparable accuracy for the steady-state result. Since the setup stays the same and Staggered CHT is enabled with a single switch, users can easily choose the right approach for each application.

Beyond these highlights, PreonLab 7.2 brings a wide range of smaller enhancements that make everyday work faster and more intuitive. Many of them come directly from your feedback. The OrientationCube, ViewFinder, and new shortcuts for showing and hiding objects simplify navigation and rendering. Text annotations, advanced colormaps, clipping outlines, improved plots, and pathline filtering by origin and destination make results easier to evaluate and communicate.

What's more?

Transmission, soiling, and rigid body applications also benefit from targeted improvements. A new CompressiblePositionCorrection (CPC) algorithm increases the stability and robustness of multiphase simulations using Continious Particle Size (CPS). The VirtualWindTunnel now considers rotating wheels during airflow generation and offers improved performance on GPU. The rain source supports user-defined dropletdistributions based on log-normal and Rosin-Rammler parameters for added realism. In addition, the new experimental rigid body constraints and joints, such as revolute, slider, and spherical joints, enable physics-based motion of rigid bodies without the need for external scripts.

Tune in to the release event to see all the updates live and find out how PreonLab 7.2 makes everyday simulation work easier and more efficient.

Key Topics

  • Setup Profiles and Script Recording: Save, apply, and share predefined simulation settings across teams, and automatically generate PreonPy code from GUI actions to standardize and automate workflows with minimal effort.
  • Staggered CHT: Up to 4x faster steady-state thermal simulations with comparable accuracy, enabled with a single switch on top of the usual setup.
  • Everyday workflow enhancements: Orientation Cube, View Finder, text annotations, advanced colormaps, clipping outlines, pathline filtering by origin and destination, and more.
  • Transmission and soiling improvements: A new Compressible Position Correction (CPC) for more robust multiphase simulation while using Continuous Particle Size (CPS). Updates to the Virtual Wind Tunnel including automatic keyframing of wheel rotation based on the airflow, and additional support for the area source allowing user-defined droplet distributions.
  • Rigid body constraints and joints: A new experimental feature to define revolute, slider, spherical joints, and cardan (universal) joints, enabling physics-based rigid body motion without external scripts.
